About St. Hedwig, TX
Located approximately 18 miles east of San Antonio, St. Hedwig is a rural town in Bexar County, Texas, founded by German and Polish emigrants in 1852. The population was 2,227 at the 2020 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area and named after Saint Hedwig, a prominent Germanic saint in the Catholic Church.
The town was founded by John Demmer in 1852 when he moved to the area from his native Silesia (modern-day Poland). In 1856, four more Silesians immigrated to the area and built the site’s first Catholic Church, Annunciation (under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio). In 1860, a post office named Cottage Hill was opened but was later renamed St. Hedwig after the patron saint of Silesia. By 1868, the community had built a stone church, and in 1897, the town boasted 200 families, mainly from Poland and Germany. To this day, most of the area’s residents can trace their ancestry back to Poland and Germany.
Over time, the use of German and Polish languages has diminished, with English becoming the dominant language among residents. However, efforts to preserve the cultural heritage continue. For instance, the Texas Polish Dialect Project (TPDP) has conducted interviews with speakers from communities like St. Hedwig to document and maintain the Polish dialects once prevalent in the area.

Highlights include the festive Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in December, featuring Santa visits, choir performances, and tree decorating contests, and the Autumn Star Party, a stargazing event at St. Hedwig City Park.

What vaccines does my pet need?
At Four Paws Inn, the health and safety of your pets is most important to us. For this reason, we require proof of vaccination for rabies (1 or 3 year), Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella (6 month or 1 year). The Canine Influenza vaccination is not required but strongly recommended.
When can I drop off and pick up my pet?
We ask that you check-in your pet at any time during our operating hours. We suggest dropping off at least 30 minutes before closing so that your pet has time to settle in. Upon check-out, please pick up your pet during our operating hours by 12 p.m. to avoid being charged for an extra day.

Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We’re more than happy to accommodate most special needs pets including senior pets, vision- or hearing-impaired pets, socially challenged pets, and those with a variety of medical conditions. We’ll discuss how we can accommodate your special needs pet when you call.
My pet takes special medication, can you administer medication to boarders?
If your pet has prescription medications, please provide them in your pet’s respective prescription containers, along with clear directions, and our staff will administer it.
My pet isn't spayed/neutered. Can they still play/stay at Four Paws Inn?

Can I bring my pet's own food?
Of course! We will serve your pet any food you prefer and bring to check-in, at no extra charge. Please bag and label each meal separately.
Can my pet bring their favorite toy?
Four Paws Inn has lots of fun, regularly cleaned toys for your pup to play with so there’s no need to bring any from home. No toys/bones/rawhides. If you would like to inquire about a specific item, feel free to reach out to us.
